Underground solution

The zoning plan didn’t allow for any more above-ground expansion. And with the narrow plot and already large building depth, that wasn’t ideal anyway. The answer turned out to be an underground extension with a bedroom and bathroom. Luckily, the city of Breda had no issue with a basement addition under the current zoning rules.

To bring natural light into the new bedroom, a walkable skylight was installed across the full width of the basement. The result: a surprisingly bright, cool, and super quiet bedroom—perfect for sleeping.
